Discretion the private dating app Private by default. Not by setting.

Most apps make privacy something you switch on after you've signed up. On ALTER, the private version is the only version. Here is every layer between your alter and the rest of your life, from the name on your profile to the last message you sent.

  • An alias, never your name
  • Blurred by default
  • Messages vanish in 1h
  • Locks when you switch apps
01—Your name

An alias. Never your name.

When you create your alter, you choose an alias and a PIN. Your real name never appears on your profile or anywhere else other members can see. Your email address and phone number stay private too, unless you decide to share them yourself.

Your verification selfie is seen only by our reviewers. It proves you're a real person and never appears on your profile.

02—Your face

Blurred until you say otherwise.

Every photo starts out of focus, and you choose how strongly it's blurred. When someone asks to see you clearly, you decide whether to grant access and for how long: 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. When the time runs out, the photo blurs again by itself.

Access is per person. Granting it to one member reveals nothing to anyone else, and private albums follow the same rule. Try it on the right.

03—Your messages

Conversations that don't outlive the night.

Messages on ALTER are end-to-end encrypted, screenshot-blocked, and gone within an hour. When the timer runs out there's nothing left to find, and no chat history you forgot to clear.

04—Your phone

Locked the moment you look away.

ALTER opens only with your PIN or fingerprint, and it locks itself as soon as you switch to another app. A phone left on the table, or handed over to show someone a photo, doesn't open onto your conversations.

05—Your visibility

Seen only when you choose.

Invisible Mode takes you out of everyone's search while you browse. Only verified members can see you at all, and your distance is always shown as an approximation, never your exact location. You can hide your distance completely.

06—This website

Even this page keeps quiet.

Press Leave quietly at the top of any page, or press Escape three times, and this site is replaced by a weather forecast. It replaces the entry in your browser history too, so the back button doesn't bring you back here. The site doesn't tell the next site where you came from, and it uses first-party analytics only.

And when you're finished with ALTER, delete everything from Settings: your profile, photos, matches and messages. You can ask for a copy of your data first.

  • No. You appear under an alias you choose. Your name, email address and phone number aren't shown to other members unless you share them yourself.

  • Everyone sees a blurred version. Only the people you grant access to see the clear photo, and only for the period you choose: 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.

  • Screenshots are blocked in conversations. Messages are also end-to-end encrypted and vanish within an hour.

  • Only an approximate distance, such as 5 km away. Your exact location is never shown, and you can hide your distance in your privacy settings.

  • Request deletion from Settings and your profile, photos, matches and messages are removed, permanently, within 30 days. You can ask us to email you a copy of your data first.
